You're Taking Too Long

“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” –  Abraham Lincoln “Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.” –  Abraham Lincoln How do I square the above two quotes to be taken together? I have long felt a need to "hustle", though it is funny that when I was attempting to recall the quote above I remembered the word, "hurried". That misremembrance may be telling as I proceed through this reflection.  But, now, the older I get, I consider much more the need to stop, to reflect, to put those reflections together in a way that I have not done before. Thinking back, I have long reflected, but those reflections seem to be very similar, evidence of a halt in growth. In many ways, I am still a babe, immature. I may always be immature in some ways, but there should be other ways that manfulness is afforded me through grace and faith.  I searched time management in the book for P...

As for me and my house

Father, I thank you.  I thank you that your light shines from generation to generation and that your promises are fulfilled for your chosen people that desire to do your work here on earth, in spite of our human condition.  Lord you're good, and your mercies endure forever. Thank you for the presence of your loving hand on our family. Thank you that you chose us to rise above the mundane and the folly and be the light that seeks out the good in people and justice in the world.  Thank you for the responsibility that comes with bearing the cross and waring your name as a badge of honor. I thank you for the favor that comes with the unshakeable faith that is ingrained in us, even from the beginning of time. You are a holy and magnificent God.  An awesome ruler and gentle redeemer. You alone are great and worthy to be praised and it is an honor to be considered your children. We are your sons and daughters and in turn, we are kings and queens. Help us to live u...

I have been thinking about reconnecting with my family. They're still here and I've been missing them. We're all in different parts of the country and the world, and we really don't talk all that often. I recently spoke with my mother on the grief that causes us. We wondered why. But it doesn't matter why it is because, at this point, it is. But what is now doesn't have to be . One thing about our family is, I would say, we are God people. Mostly, we're Jesus people but on the whole we're God people. We seek to find ourselves in the will of the God who made, makes, and loves us. The God of Abraham. An anci...
